I’m hesitant to even start writing this post because I’m pretty sure no one would describe me as someone they would go to for makeup advice. But, in a weird way, I feel like that fact in itself makes me someone you’d want to get an opinion from. I don’t spend a ton of money on makeup and I wear the absolute BARE MINIMUM. I find something I like and I stick with it. I’m the type of person who wants to make the BIGGEST IMPACT with my makeup in the LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME. Can anyone out there relate? If so, keep reading because I swear, I wouldn’t waste your time on just any makeup advice. I have proof that this tip really works magic. 😉
I own the usual suspects: foundation, concealer, mascara. If I really have some time and I’m staying up past 7 pm, I’ll add in eyeliner, eyeshadow and a bronzer. But realistically, you can usually just find me swiping my lashes with mascara in the parking lot on the way in to drop my daughter off at school. I’m working on setting aside more time in the morning to try and pull myself together but, when it comes to me, sleep always wins out.
The other day I was running in to the grocery store to pick up dinner. I had been sprinting around all day changing dirty diapers, chasing after the Littles and trying to get sips of my reheated coffee in between tantrums. That day, I was wearing my oldest most raggedy pair of sweatpants, an old tee shirt covered in coffee stains (per usual, how anyone can bring a mug of coffee into the car and not spill something is beyond me) and my favorite St. Louis Cardinals baseball cap from college. It was the type of outfit that you hope no one you know shows up at the grocery store and sees you but, in the back of your mind, KNOW that because of THIS OUTFIT, the grocery store will be filled with everyone you have ever met. Despite looking like I had worn the same outfit for 3 days in a row, which In all honesty I probably had, I managed to throw on my favorite bright pink lipstick before heading inside. As I walked in, a woman and her daughter were selling Girl Scout cookies out front and like any normal human being, I stopped to buy a box. Ok, I bought two. Three, I bought three. You got me. I was trying not to make eye contact to hide the fact that besides my lipstick, I didn’t have a touch of makeup on and the bags under my eyes from awful sleep the night before could most probably be seen from Mars.
“You look so cute!” Did I just hear that right? She could not be talking to me. She’s obviously just trying to sell more cookies.
“Who Me? I just spilled coffee all over my shirt and I’m basically wearing my pajamas”, I said jokingly.
She responded, “Honestly, I didn’t even notice those things because I couldn’t get past your beautiful shade of lipstick”!
My jaw dropped. Bold lipstick is the makeup secret I have been searching for! As I walked back to my car, still in awe of the trick I just performed on this poor woman haha, I vowed at that very moment that if I could do nothing else, I’d always throw on a bright shade of lipstick. So ladies, what I’m trying to say is, I’m no expert but, from my experience, If you don’t have a lot of time in the morning or you have been too nervous to take the plunge into wearing bright lipstick. DO IT!! The lipstick has magical powers that instantly makes you look put together and prevents anyone from noticing that you are, in fact, wearing pajamas at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. Here are a few that I have tried and love and here’s to finding a shade you love too. From the mouth of Lisa Rinna, because it’s Tuesday and RHOBH is on tonight AND, obviously, the woman knows lips! Find a shade you love and “OWN IT” Mama!
