Most days, you can find me in a pair of cutoff shorts and a tee. That is IF I manage to get out of my sweats. I always admire the Moms who look put together and styled but when it comes to me, comfort and function usually win out in my day-to-day wardrobe. Even so, when it comes to nights out whether it be for a date or a girls night, I try to pull something cute together. It takes me back to the girl I used to be in college. You know, the one who had all the time in the world to get ready. These days I usually have about 30 minutes or less to throw myself together but still, it’s nice and it makes me feel like a human again. This past Saturday we had a babysitter booked and plans to meet up for a birthday celebration! This Mama was ready for a night out, but what in the world was I going to wear? I feel like it’s a dilemma a lot of Moms tend to have.
We love being Moms but, we don’t necessarily want our wardrobe to scream “Mom” when we’re trying the newest “it” restaurant in town. You feel me?!
In all honesty, I don’t get out to shop much. I live steps away from a mall and I rarely make it in to look inside. My husband loves that about me but my wardrobe? Not so much. I had some extra time during the day while two of my Littles were out on the lake with friends so, I decided to head over to Nordstrom to attempt to find a new top for our night out. One of my favorite things about Austin is the fact that you don’t need to dress up to go anywhere! It’s a pretty casual place so if you want to wear jeans, wear jeans. And wouldn’t you know it, jeans are my go-to when getting dressed for a night out. My favorite pair right now is the DECISION MADE! While getting ready, I decided to wear it with simple gold hoop earrings from Anthropologie and my new Dalphine Booties by Sole Society that I purchased during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale. And there you have it, the perfect casual date night outfit!I love a good skinny jean but my closet is full of them and this pair gave me a different look than what I normally go for. The high waist sucks me in in all the right places and the button fly adds a nice detail. I quickly realized after walking into Nordstrom that a positive about trying to find a new top while running through the store with a 1-year old is that you are forced to follow your gut! You don’t have time to debate back and forth about whether or not you need the red peplum top or the black off the shoulder. You just pick the first top that catches your eye and you try it on. I was immediately drawn to the unique color and subtle print of this mustard top by Top Shop. The cut was extremely flattering with its v-neck and slimming detailing at the waist. Plus, it looked great paired with my jeans. PERFECT,
Moral of this story, if you can find some spare cash and a little time to run into the mall (even it’s with your adorable Littles in tow), FREAKIN’ DO IT!
